Youth In Harmony
Director of Student Activities – Arne Helbig
The Vision of the Barbershop Harmony Society is to lead the cause of encouraging choral music in our schools, our homes and in our communities.
With this purpose in mind, in late 1998, the Sunshine District launched the Youth Music Festival Program, a major effort to further this vision by introducing barbershop harmony, an original American art form of four-part a cappella singing, to the students and music educators of every school throughout the State of Florida.
The Sunshine District is proud of the fact that it has launched the largest music education partnership program for students in Florida’s history at no cost to the State, the schools or the students.
The Youth Harmony Workshop program has been a great success. To date over 16,000 students and 800 music educators have participated in the Youth Harmony Workshop program in Florida alone. The program, in cooperation with Sweet Adelines International, has spread across the entire country. Many current top level quartet and chorus members had their start at one of these workshops.
