Sunshine District

Youth In Harmony

The Vision of the Barbershop Harmony Society is to lead the cause of encouraging choral music in our schools, our homes and in our communities.

With this purpose in mind, in late 1998, the Sunshine District launched the Youth Music Festival Program, a major effort to further the vision by introducing the original art form of four-part a cappella harmony-- our barbershop harmony—to the students and music educators of every school through out the state of Florida.

The Sunshine District is proud of the fact that it has launched the largest music education partnership program for students in Florida’s history at no cost to the state, the schools or the students.

This all-volunteer led program has been endorsed by June Hinkley, former national president of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) and State Department Of Education Fine Arts Curriculum Manager.

Ms. Hinkley urged her associates at the 67 school districts throughout the state of Florida to participate in this program.

The Youth Harmony Workshop program is progressing well. To date a total of over 12,000 students and 800 music educators have participated in the Youth Harmony Workshop program.

If your chapter is interested in coordinating a Workshop in your school district, contact Arne Helbig at 813-961-8002.
